The following are Kent’s own words about his GC win at the 2014 Iris Stagner Memorial Stage Race…

As we loaded up the car heading out Friday late morning heading to Mineral Wells, Garreth and I talked mainly about how ideal the weather conditions appeared to be compared to the last two years. As we expected they were a little colder than I would have liked in the morning but almost perfect. We got to Mineral Wells within time to pre-ride both the TT course and a lap around the circuit course. Both courses seemed to be nice and fast with the wind playing a part in both finishes. I warmed up for the circuit race on my trainer for about 30 minutes to get nice and ready for what I assumed would be a tough race.

Our guys Kris Bates, Gary Crowell, and Joseph Lao all made top 20 in their respective categories at the Rocky Hill Roundup in Smithville, TX this past Sunday. In his first mountain bike race, Kris nailed 4th place in the Cat 3, 30-39 Age Group. Gary Crowell got 15th in the Cat 2, 45-49 Age Group. Joseph Lao got tangled up a bit, but managed to come back and valiantly hang on to 11th place in the Cat 2, 35-39 Age Group.

Despite a weekend full of crashes and mechanical issues across all categories, Voodoo Racing was represented well with many top-20 finishes at the Tour of New Braunfels February 1 and 2. At the Saturday Omloop race, Aaron Wade took 13th in the 40+, Jaxson Warrick and Jeffrey Skipper hit 16th and 17th in the Cat 4/5, and Kent Meyers and Scot Pemberton got 14th and 21st in the Cat 3.

Inspiring insight from the Manual for Speed

We’re big fans of Castelli gear here at Voodoo Racing. They produce some of the finest racing kit on the market, so it’s no surprise that they sponsor a great blog on the subject of bike racing. It presents an inside look at the professional cyclist’s pursuit of speed. My favorite part of the site is their compilation of insights and quotes called For the Record:

http://www.manualforspeed.com/for-the-record/

Here are a couple of my personal favorites:

#28 Do It With Passion: “I don’t know how to dance, but like most things, I do it with passion. And it turns out ok. I don’t know how to make love and I have six children. I don’t really know how to ride a bike… but I do it with passion.” —Jens Voigt

#32 Nurture More Than Just Your Legs: “Jasper is going to be successful even if he never wins a classic, even if he never wins a grand tour stage, even if he never wins another race once he goes up to the Pro Tour. He will still be successful and teams will always want to have him around. He’s professional, he’s smart, he cares, he’s well-rounded. He has character.” —Reed McCalvin
