Voodoo Racing is off to a great start in 2015 with Michael Jones winning the 3/4 category at the Megan Baab Memorial Road Race this past weekend! With a nicely coordinated assist from other Voodoo riders, Mike got off the front and made a solo break to take the top step with an impressive 4-minute lead.
Voodoo Racing had seven riders in the top 10 of various categories following the time trial, putting us in a great position for the crit races on the 2nd day. We woke up to find a strong storm cell parked over Tyler hitting the city with strong winds, cold temperatures and hard rain. The race promoters decided to keep everyone safe and cancel the crits.
We took a trip to Lake Charles, LA this past weekend to compete in the Race du Lac stage race. We arrived as virtual unknowns, but quickly made our presence felt after the first stage with Voodoo racers in the GC top 5 of the Cat 3, Cat 4, and P/1/2 categories.
The following are Kent Myer’s own words about the brilliant coordinated efforts of our Cat 3 squad (Kent, Nate Sheetz, and Aaron Wade) that helped him win the Cat 3 GC at Corsicana this year:
Corsicana was one of the first stage races I did last year right after getting my cat 3 upgrade, I had such a great time I was looking forward to the race this year as all of the courses fit my strengths pretty well. We rolled into the host hotel early evening on Friday to find they had managed to lose our reservation, but luckily had a few teammates to bunk up with on rollaway beds.
This was another weekend of strong finishes for Voodoo Racing. On the Saturday clockwise course Garreth Hays hit the podium with 3rd in the 40+, Kent Myers got 12th in the Cat 3, Nick Masiewicki came in 21st in the 4/5, and Jim Chomko and John Powell got 13th and 14th in the 35+ 4/5. On Sunday, Nate Sheetz got the podium with 2nd place in the Cat 3, Carson Lange also made the podium with 2nd in the Cat 2, TC Porterfield came in 13th in the Cat 2, and Nick Masiewicki came in 13th in the 4/5.
